The Organisation
Bioregional champions a better, more sustainable way to live – we call this One Planet Living. We’re aiming to make truly sustainable living a reality, through thriving regional economies where we meet more of our needs from local, renewable and waste resources, enabling people to live happy, healthy lives within the natural limits of the planet, leaving space for wildlife and wilderness.
This isn’t just an idealism. We work with partners to create better places for people to live, work and do business. We’re very proud that, through our One Planet Living initiative, over 750 people have been trained to work at one of the world’s foremost eco-tourism and conservation projects; leading UK retailer, B&Q have saved £115m through more efficient use of energy and reducing landfill waste; and over 10,000 hectares of woodland has been assessed to aid better management and wildlife conservation.
One Planet principles are used to structure thinking and inform action, and are rooted in the science and metrics of ecological and carbon footprinting. These principles provide a holistic framework to help organisations and project teams examine the sustainability challenges faced, develop appropriate solutions and communicate the actions being taken to key stakeholders such as colleagues, the supply chain, clients, customers and local and national government. The Opportunities
From small beginnings Bioregional has grown into an organisation which has founded several green enterprises, influences the sustainability of many thousands of new homes and works with global businesses to make their operations and strategy more sustainable. We’ve achieved a great deal during the last 20 years but there’s still so much work to do, and we’re looking for new people to join us, who share our belief that we can make a lasting difference. Our Chair is stepping down this year, and some trustees have reached the end of their terms. We are therefore seeking a new Chair, and four trustees with a variety of skills and experiences.
The skills and experience we’re looking for
As well as sharing our vision and commitment to sustainability, we’d be very interested to hear from people with experience in real estate, retail business or digital business, all aspects of communications, including marketing, branding, public affairs and policy, and HR, particularly staff development skills. Candidates will also be entrepreneurial and/or demonstrate commercial acumen and experience.
For the role of Chair, prior experience in a similar role would be advantageous, or significant experience as a trustee or non-executive director.
