Help Eton Fives to win Five Stars
Development Manager (22.5 hours per week, flexible)
London and the South East / the Midlands and the North
A unique opportunity to shape a historic 7 year programme to triple the size of Eton Fives.
Eton Fives is a handball game played on a three-walled court. It originated at Eton College and is now played at a number of state and independent schools, a few universities and at public courts at The Westway Sports Centre, Shepherds Bush, in London.
The national governing body for the sport, the Eton Fives Association (EFA), has agreed a seven-year programme of expansion, called the FiveStar Project. It will increase the number of Fives centres in the UK from 41 to 68 and will triple the number of active players.
We need to raise £4 million for this historic and ambitious programme. Key objectives are to provide courts in more state schools, public sports centres and universities, increase the number of coaches and organisers, and widen the existing player base, especially to disabled players.
The EFA is setting up a Development Office over an initial 2-year period to raise the funds, identify the targets and see through the projects that will make up the FiveStar programme.
We are recruiting two Development Managers, one to focus on London and South East England and the other on the Midlands and the North.
The Development Managers will report to the Director of the FiveStar Project. They will have a wide remit to further the objectives of the project in the region as well as working on one or more national projects. They should have a demonstrable track record, minimum 3 years in total, in one or more of the following areas:
Fundraising for sport, especially from the charitable sector, public sector funds e.g. Sport England or corporate donors
Events management
Publicity and PR.
You will need to be both creative and flexible in running events and campaigns. You will need excellent interpersonal skills. A passion for sport and its role in enhancing people’s lives is essential.
The contracts will be for an initial 22 months and may be renewed dependent on available funds and the success of the FiveStar project.
The positions will suit applicants who can work from home or from an established office in the region served. You will be required to travel within the region and occasionally outside it.
The salary for each of the two positions will be set according to skills and experience.
