Regulatory & Market Analyst - Irish Energy Market
Competitive Salary + Generous Benefits Package
County Offaly, Republic of Ireland
About the client
Our client is a successful semi-state company operating in the power generation (peat-fired/biomass/wind), waste management, peat, fuels and horticulture sectors. With an aim to move away from less environmentally friendly forms of power generation such as peat-fired and their peat harvesting, our client is putting a focus on developing their wind and biomass assets.
The role...
Both the market framework and regulatory regime for electricity are undergoing substantial transformation at national, regional and European levels. The Integrated Single Electricity Market (I-SEM) is a new wholesale electricity market arrangement for Ireland and Northern Ireland which will be implemented in 2018. The new market arrangements are designed to integrate the all-island electricity market with European electricity markets, enabling the free flow of energy across borders.
It is critical that our client understands how these changes will impact on its overall business & commercial interests and, where appropriate, can influence the final design of the market and the interpretation/application of the new regulations. You will be immersed in the market/regulatory redesign process, and will be involved in preparing the company's formal responses to these consultative processes.
Role & Responsibilities
As Regulatory & Market Analyst, reporting to the Commercial & Regulatory Affairs Manager, you will:
* Participate in the SEMC's market redesign process and the associated development of new market arrangements in two directions; firstly, analyse and disseminate the proposed changes then secondly, propose modifications of the final regulations into a configuration which is best aligned with the company's commercial interests.
* Analyse wider national, regional and European energy policies from the perspective of the company's generation portfolio and strategic assets - then report this information to your manager in a timely manner.
* Ensure timely and considered responses to formal consultations, assist the Market Modelling function and provide regular updates to the management team of developments in the regulatory and commercial spheres.
* Build and cultivate relationships with a range of stakeholders such as; CER, UR, Eirgrid, EAI, DCENR, DETI, DECC, OFGEM and NG UK.
* Identify commercial opportunities for forward selling of power and support the daily operations of the bidding/trading function of all generation assets across the different market timeframes.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
To be considered, you will have the following:
* Honours degree in Science/Engineering/Energy Economics or Policy
* Post-qualification experience in the Irish/UK/European energy market
* Understanding of the regulatory systems for energy
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to work within a collaborative team as well as on your own initiative
Package and benefits
What's on offer for you:
* Competitive salary
* Generous benefits package including pension, bonus, mobile phone and laptop
* An opportunity to join an established, diverse, progressive and reputable company
