The Client

Our client is an Institute for Industrial Mathematics and System Engineering, at the forefront of the industrial and business applications of mathematics, with key client relationships in algorithm design, risk modelling, optimisation and data analytics.

The Role

As the Institute grows, they are looking to recruit mathematical scientists who wish to take on the role of Business Development Manager, reporting to our Business Development Director. As part of the Business Development team, you will be supported to develop new skills in establishing and maintaining good relationships with customers and colleagues, identifying new business opportunities, writing outstanding proposals and negotiating contracts.

We would be keen to speak with candidates that fit the following criteria:

Successful applicants will have an outstanding academic background in mathematics or computing, including a higher degree, and excellent communications skills. We are looking for people who can rapidly assimilate and develop new ideas, and so the strength of mathematical background is more important to us than the area of specialism.
Successful applicants will have experience of applying mathematical techniques to business challenges and must be excited by the prospect of helping the Institute to expand its activities, by building new client relationships and developing skills in business development.
Successful applicants must be able to demonstrate a potential to work alongside current staff, both as part of project teams and in identifying and developing new business opportunities.
Successful applicants must be able to build strong relationships with potential clients, and those with a more extensive track record must demonstrate an ability to take the initiative in planning, instigating and executing new activity.
It is important that candidates are able to work independently. The organisations current staff often work from home, and we do not plan to change this practice. Applicants must therefore be able to work effectively in this type of team-oriented but distributed environment.

We are interested to hear from people either in the early stages of their careers or with one or more years of employment as a mathematician, system engineer or in business development.
