Our client provides environmental management, engineering, planning and architectural services in support of various public and private organisations. They help clients deal with an expanding range of practical environmental and water industries and recognise the growing need for expertise in environmental management.

Due to their growing UK business needs and future development aspirations they are looking for a Geo-environmental Scientist/ Engineer.

The successful person will become part of Sustainable Solutions' highly respected Land Quality discipline with excellent career prospects and international opportunities. The Land Quality discipline team is fully integrated with the wider Sustainable Solutions team and provides strategic advice and innovative solutions to manage our clients' land quality and groundwater liabilities; and includes technical specialists in the fields of land contamination assessment, environmental science, environmental geology, geochemistry and environmental engineering.

The Environmental Regulation business has opportunities for you to join our client's dynamic and respected team in either Glasgow or Edinburgh. Working on a diverse range of projects in the private and public sector and require committed scientists/ engineers to support their strong workload.

Primary Job Responsibilities
As a Geo-environmental scientist/ engineer you will be joining a successful and dynamic sixty strong national team and reporting to the local team lead in your home office. You will assist in the delivery of geo-environmental input to projects and will also be required to provide technical guidance and support to more junior staff. Your main responsibilities will depend on specific project requirements but are likely to include:

* Project delivery
* Managing site reconnaissance and monitoring activities, including ground gas monitoring and groundwater sampling
* Completing health and safety risk assessments and method statements
* Designing and implementation of intrusive ground investigations
* Preparing and reviewing technical reports and deliverables
* Undertaking qualitative and quantitative risk assessments and evaluations.
* Providing technical input to Environmental Impact Assessment
* Planning, designing and implementing remediation strategies and associated mitigation measures.

Training and Experience

Essential:
Good all-round technical working expertise in geo-environmental consultancy including contaminated land and/or hydrogeology. This will include a good foundation in site work including planning and overseeing site investigation, logging, and monitoring/sampling.
Industry experience in the production of desk studies and interpretive reporting and an understanding of the development of conceptual site models and quantitative risk assessment. The ability to produce well-presented and accurate reports.
Your technical capability should be supported by the self-motivation and ability to progress projects from inception to closure with support from more senior members of the team.
A good honours degree in a relevant earth science subject, and be working towards chartership with a relevant professional body (e.g. CIWEM, IEMA, Geological Society of London, CIEH, ICE).
Excellent communication and IT literacy skills and the ability to work as part of a large multi-disciplinary team as well as providing support to those working within the wider team.
A team player willing to work away from your base office, with a high level of personal responsibility and adaptable and flexible approach to different project requirements.
A full driving licence is essential.

Desirable:
Experience and understanding of hydrogeology
Experience of rail and highway infrastructure projects
Experience of the production of environmental impact assessments.
Post graduate degree or qualification in a relevant subject.
