The position of "Concrete Operative" within the Stair manufacturing Department involves the manufacture of concrete staircases designed and manufactured to specific and bespoke construction schedules. It is through correct interpretation of these construction schedules and a series of production processes that result in the manufacture of concrete staircases. These staircases are manufactured to specific tolerances and to an aesthetically pleasing and agreed appearance.
You will be responsible for the safe operation and efficient running of all plant and equipment that you will be trained to use. You must be focused and committed to achieve our aims in delivering excellent quality to an agreed schedule of works to meet customer requirements.
The job role will consist of being trained in various production processes within the concrete stair manufacturing system, ranging from the operation of joinery machinery, preparing and fabricating reinforcing steel cages, setting up and preparing various stair moulds and filling these stair moulds with homogeneous concrete.
You will be trained to use various hand held tools steel cage manufacturing tools, hand held tools (i.e. drills, impact drivers, routers etc), the use of overhead cranes and Fork Lift Trucks.
1. Key accountabilities
* Maintain standards of Health & Safety for not only yourself but others whilst engaged in all work place activities. Ensure that no items are left on the floor or left obstructing any walkway or working area where you have been designated to work.
* Ensure all Health & safety standards are adhered to as set out within the sites health & safety management systems. Report all Health & Safety concerns immediately to your line manager
* Ensure that risk assessments and safe systems of work for each task / process you are trained in are strictly adhered to.
* Ensure that PPE issued is kept and maintained in good condition
* Ensure that all tools & equipment that you use are returned to their nominated storage place after use & are not left strewn around the department.
* Ensure that all guarding is correctly fitted. Report & action any defective equipment immediately.
* Ensure a permit to work is obtained for high-risk tasks e.g. working at height, crane cleaning, entering a defined confined space working area.
* Ensure when working with vibrating tools the relevant permit is completed prior to use of the tool.
2. Job dimensions
Working within a Precast concrete manufacturing plant, the job function OF "Concrete Operative" involves operating a variety of machinery in addition to some manual work. A comprehensive training package has been developed for the safe use of all equipment in use for example: - overhead electric gantry cranes, joinery machinery, batching plant, etc

The role holder is expected:

* to comply will all aspects of the HR Policies and Procedures of the Company
4. Education/Qualification
Qualifications:
* Literacy and Numeracy to GCSE level
* Ideally Trained to or be prepared to train to IOSH Working Safely standards
Experience:
* Previous experience of working as part of a team.
* Experience of working in a factory environment would be advantageous.
* Experience of using joinery equipment or joinery skills.
* Experience of steel cage fabrication.
