Our client, based in Northampton, is looking for a Company Health & Safety Manager to join the business on a 6 month Fixed Term Contract. The role may become permanent. Reporting to the Head of Logistics, you will be responsible for company safety across all areas of the business, this will include the distributions centre in Northampton, as well as retail and Head Office function.
You will ensure that a professional service is provided in terms of risk management by accident reduction, legal compliance and improving the health, welfare and safety of company employees and those affected by the work of the company, including customers and visitors.
**What are your responsibilities?**
**Health & Safety Leadership and Business Partnership**
Responsible for the development of the company H&S strategy to include policy, induction, training, communication and statutory compliance
Chair / support Chair the H&S committee, responsible for flagging and escalating any major H&S concerns through the appropriate channels and implementing appropriate action plans to mitigate any risk
Support all sites as the on-call, tactical expert in emergency situations
Advisor for H&S sub groups
**Policy**
To develop, coordinate and maintain all company H&S policies and ensure that they are approved through the correct governance process
Consult with relevant departments on policy development and rollout
Ensure all H&S policies comply with statutory minimums and strive to achieve industry best practice
Responsible for the communication of all company health and safety policy to ensure all colleagues are kept up to date with any changes
**Legal Compliance**
Effective development and provisions of information, advice, assistance and guidance on a full range of Health and safety and compliance matters, including legal compliance, risk assessments and fire protection and prevention.
To provide expert legal advice and knowledge keeping up to date with safety law and best practice
To liaise as required with statutory authorities e.g. local fire services and EHOs
Ensure that statutory requirements are being upheld e.g. COSHH, RIDDOR,LOLER etc.
Preparing information for insurance brokers
**Planning and Implementation**
Identify, develop and implement required H&S training across all channels
Regular review of all mandatory training i.e. fire marshals, first aiders on RAG basis.
Provide H&S specialist advice, offer coaching and practical support to managers and staff.
Anticipate, Influence and meet challenges of implementing legislation
Produce Board reports
**Audit and Performance**
To audit and review H&S strategy and performance of company against objective internal and external standards. To influence senior management on any adjustments required
Formulate, maintain and monitor management systems and targets
Act as the investigating officer for complex safety incident and take lead role in the investigation of incidents
Carry out H&S audits, fire and emergency planning across all channels
Develop statistical trend analysis for reporting incidents
Develop proactive monitoring of site H&S management systems
Visit all sites to complete audits
**Additional Responsibilities**
Management of reception and all associated duties/tasks that sit with the receptionist
Manage the on-site contact for water coolers and hot taps

Price / Salary: £45,000 per annum
