Are you a highly organised and analytical professional with great problem solving skills?
Amey is looking for a Highways Inspector to work for Staffordshire County Council contract. The Highways Inspector is responsible to collect data relating to safety and future improvements so as to safeguard the travelling public, client and Amey. In addition, the Highways Inspector will play a key role to assist the Senior Highway Inspector with reports that meet specified requirements and liaising with third parties and working on the highway and members of the public.
What will this role involve?
Carry out inspections in accordance with the Well Maintained Highways Code of General Practice and our Clients Code of Practice
Undertake both driven and walked inspections throughout the counties network of footways, cycle ways and carriageways
Comply with the relevant health and safety legislation
Communication with third party claims team to provide evidence in the defence of third party claims
Attend court to assist with the rebuttal of claims against the Highway Authority
Assist with the establishment and implementation of a programme of inspections and investigations
Liaise with the OCR and staff to ensure planning, operations and works are co-ordinated
The effective use of validations, inspections, sanctions and charges to assist in the overall administration, inspection and enforcement of controls on the highway network (including control processes, e.g. discharges, overgrown hedges, encroachment, obstructions, etc.);Pro-active co-ordination of all activities on the highway network;
To check, review and approve applications for permits and licences;
The appropriate use of enforcement techniques, if necessary leading to the serving of notices and formally representing SCC;
Adherence to appropriate parts of the Highways Act 1980, New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 (as amended by the TMA 2004) and Traffic Management Act 2004 (and any other legislation) in relation to highway control processes (e.g. TTROS, temporary traffic controls, skips, scaffolds, defects, overrun charging, FPNs, etc.) and implementing the application of these statutory duties.
Undertake inspections to ensure quality of statutory undertakers reinstatements, or other such street furniture, meet the national requirements of the specification, regulations and guidance;
What are we looking for?
Knowledge of relevant legislation and Codes of Practice
Full Current UK driving licence
Relevant Inspectors courses and qualifications, including defect identification, monitoring and recording or the ability / willingness to achieve
IT Literate
Knowledge of the network
Excellent communication skills (verbal/written) and be able to manage stakeholders at all levels
Self-Motivated
Able to work alone and prioritise workload
Able to work as part of a team
Able to work under pressure
