Due to growth we now require an experienced Assistant Underwriter to join our expanding team based in our offices in Chelmsford.

Summary Purpose
This role is an integral part of the Underwriting Team and will contribute to the development and profitable growth of the Commercial SME business for the group.
You will provide underwriting support to Underwriters, Technical Underwriting Manager and Senior Underwriter.
Key Objectives
Work closely with Underwriters to assist in the day to day running of the SME team.
Assist in underwriting new business and existing accounts to contribute to the profitable development of the SME team.
Provide pre underwriting and rating support to Underwriters
Processing of mid-term adjustments
Ensure agreed Service Level Agreements are met or exceeded.
To assist the team in the preparation of statistics, analyses of business trends, new business proposals, data entry and data processing as well as to assist with the production of business reports for use within the team and for reporting purposes
Support with IT systems testing and development
Build strong working relationships with internal and external service providers including insurers, marketing, compliance

Skills Qualifications and Experience
A minimum of 2 years experience in Property and Liability Insurance industry
Ability and confidence to work in a small dedicated team.
Self-motivated, well organised and capable of managing own diary / workloads.
Proactive towards changing working environments.
Good people skills with the ability to communicate and build rapport and influence across a diverse range of personalities.
Excellent keyboard and VDU skills, including practical and demonstrable knowledge of Word and Excel
Proactive, resourceful and creative approach to problem solving.
Numerate, literate with good analytical skills.
Cert CII qualification or good progress made towards
Minimum 5 GCSEs at C level or above including maths and English
Due to the nature of our industry all successful applications will need to perform a criminal and consumer credit check

We do work a 37.5 hour week with contract hours between 8:30am and 5:30pm
