Director of Legal and General Counsel

Location: Leicester

As our legal consultant and operating as a key member of the senior leadership team, you will provide strategic and commercial legal support and advice to the Bank, to enable the delivery of our business plan and act as the Banks company secretary.

You will provide expert and strategic advice to the Board to ensure that legally correct decisions are taken, and perform an active role in the Business Management Group by providing clear leadership on the day to day running of the Bank. You will be responsible for ensuring our interests are fully protected at all times and also ensure the proper arrangement of Board meetings.

You will also manage the legal team, leading and mentoring more junior members of the legal team, ensuring all internal Real Estate loan legal work is delivered effectively, efficiently and to the highest quality standards.

For this role you will also need the following skills and experience:

* Qualified Commercial Solicitor with at least 10 years post-qualification experience (some obtained in-house) within the financial services industry / working for financial services clients.

* Demonstrable technical legal competency and able to read and interpret financial accounts where relevant to legal aspects of proposed lending

* Ability to assess and communicate commercial and legal risk

* Experience of working with senior boards, as well as corporate reorganisations and restructures

* Thorough understanding of the Companies Act, Insolvency Act, Financial Services and Markets Act and all delegated legislation made under them, plus the UK Corporate Governance Code

* Experience of managing teams, ideally within the legal arena, with the ability to motivate and develop others
